Simply Books is an award-winning independent bookshop based in the heart of Bramhall, just south of Manchester. As a pillar of the community for more than 20 years, you would be hard pressed to find someone local who does not have a link to the shop in some way.

That is equally true of us, Simply Books’ new owners- Karen, Ben, and Jess. As mother and son, Karen and Ben have been coming to Simply Books since Ben was little- attending events with authors like Frank Cottrell-Boyce and going to creative writing workshops (from which he still has his Simply Books branded notepad!). Since Jess joined the family, over 6 years ago when she and Ben met, her affinity with both Bramhall and the shop has been just as strong.

We are absolutely thrilled to be taking Simply Books forward into its next chapter, and are now hiring our initial team so we can do just that. We have both full-time and part-time roles available, in areas from bookselling to marketing.

Here at Simply Books, and at every other business we’ve run, we hire a little differently. For us, the right person beats experience and qualifications every time. Sure, they’re nice to have and will definitely help in the process, but they are not a requirement. For almost all of our roles, we know we can show you what you need to know and then let you run with it and make it your own.

Our Hiring Process

For most of our roles, after the application, our hiring process looks like this:

<aside> 1️⃣ Screening Call If your application looks to be a good fit, we jump on a Zoom call to put a face to a name, and ask a few questions!

<aside> 2️⃣ Owner Interview Meet one of our co-owners for an interview at the shop, focusing on you as a person and your goals

</aside>

<aside> 3️⃣ Trial shift or task Depending on the role, we either ask you to come in and do a trial shift or a relevant take home task

<aside> 4️⃣ Culture fit interview Finally, meet with some of the wider team to see whether you would be a good fit within the team- and that you like us!
